PC Repair
There are a few things people really should consider when looking at computer repair. The first thing to consider is that you do only get what you pay for. If a computer company offers repairs at rock bottom price they may not have the skills to fix your PC correctly. The easy way to see this, is if a computer repair company don’t offer any guarantee.
A good example of this is last month. We had a member join who said they needed their computer repairing. They had taken it to someone they found in the newspaper and he was very cheap indeed. The company had their PC for over 2 weeks and still the issue was not resolved. They said they has 20 years of computer experience but still they had problems
When you choose a computer repair company it’s always worth asking “how long have you been in business?” You will find the majority of firms have only been in business for a few short months.
Another good question is to enquire exactly what qualifications they have. You should expect at the least for them to have A+ certification, which is the most basic level in the computer repair industry.
When you find a firm that offers a good price ask about exactly what guarantees they offer and if they price they have quoted will cover all aspects of the repair. Some companies charge an hourly rate. It’s a bad idea to go down this route as it is too open ended. You may be quoted £30 per an hour and that it should take 2 hours. If the job takes 5 hours you will end up paying more than double for the job. It is important on the guarantee side also. It is fair to say that 9 times out of 10 a virus can be removed the first time, however its not until a few days later you can be completely certain that is has gone. If only a small part was missed, it may be able to come back and that is where your guarantee comes into play.
If a company can offer to repair your system remotely it is often the cheapest way to go, without doubt. You need to make sure that if they don’t fix it there is no charge, and that the service is charged for the job and not by the hour. By this way you will know in advance that if it is not fixed you will not be charged and again ask about guarantees.
