Article: Why Is My Computer Slow

Technology and slow are complete opposites with each other. With the rapid advancement of technology, we have become more and more reliant on computers to have information on the go. However, despite how hard we want it to be our way, sometimes our computers fail us and they do not perform at their peak performance when we them to. The question then pops to mind, "why is my computer slow?"

There are several reasons to explain why your computer is not performing at its maximum potential.

Virus or Spyware

One of the main causes for 'slow-down' performance of computers is due to the introduction of viruses or spyware into the system. Viruses and spywares not only slow down your computer's performance but it can erase precious data too. Also, viruses can leave behind false registry keys that will slow down your computer as your computer has to go over these false registry keys to get to the right one.

Corrupted Registry

The registry part of our computers is not something that we often look into however it does play an important role that may be the reason for your computer slowing down. It contains many files that are called registry keys that determine how your computer will function and run. Unfortunately, these registry keys can be ruin overtime as the computer is constantly used for different functions. Through this process, new entries are made and old entries are deleted, resulting in false entries. As such, the computer slows down as it has to go over these false entries before processing the right one. Moreover, after a long period of use, computers can loss files pertaining to the registry or the files may have turned corrupted.

Multiple programs

Just like how we wish to complete our tasks in the shortest possible time, we do that through trying to complete our tasks all at the same time! When we are at work, we open numerous windows, Microsoft Word, Excel documents, websites for research, all these while chatting with our friends on the web messenger! How can we then expect our computer to be at its fullest potential? Just imagine, someone were to ask you to wash the clothes while changing the diapers and at the same time cook dinner for the family. It is impossible! You may argue that we are human and are restricted to our boundaries and while computers don't cry for mummy, they just overload.

Machine and men may be different, but both have their limits and capacities. We have to learn how to take care of our computers just as how we take care of ourselves. While, you need not pamper your computer with praises or compliments, what I meant was to keep it at its best. Clear the bad "stuff" inside it and do regular virus checks and keep it well maintained. Only then, will you be able to enjoy the advantages and benefits of having a computer that can function at its best all the time.

Article: 7 Easy Steps to Secure Your Wireless Router

Accessing Your Wireless Router's Configuration

To gain access to your wireless router settings and configuration menu then connect to the router either wirelessly or via a Ethernet cable. Open a web browser and type either:

<a href="http://192.168.1.1/">http://192.168.1.1</a> or

<a href="http://192.168.2.1/">http://192.168.2.1</a>

1) Change Admin password

Most wireless routers ship with a blank password. It is essential that this is changed else a potential hacker could get into your router configuration and lock you out of your own hardware.

2) Change The Network Name (otherwise known as the SSID)

The default network name is usually made up of the name/model of your wireless router. This information gives a head start for a hacker and makes it easier for them to break into your network. Don't rename it to something like your surname or house name as this unnecessarily exposes personal information. Rename it to an alpha-numeric string - this can be up to 32 characters long.

3) Turn off SSID broadcasting

By default, a wireless router's SSID is broadcast so anyone in the vicinity of your wireless router can see that it. SSID broadcasting can be turned off thus making your wireless router virtually invisible.

4) Enabling Encryption

This is switched off by default. There is a choice of WEP, WPA and WPA2. Currently the latest encryption method is WPA2 so use this where possible. Both your wireless router and wireless PC adaptor must be configured to use the same encryption.

5) Mac Address Control

All hardware has a unique MAC address associated with it, including your PC adaptor card. This MAC address can be added to access control list in the wireless router. Only devices added to the router's access control list are allowed to be connected.

6) Update router firmware

It is recommended that the latest router firmware is downloaded from the manufacturer's website and installed in the router. This will hopefully fix any bugs that have been found for your router and also help with any known security flaws in the router itself.

7) Backup settings

Finally, backup all router settings. If you reset the router back to its factory default settings for whatever reason, your configuration can later be easily and quickly restored back into the router.

The term Notebook computers and laptop computer is often used interchangeably. However notebook computers are smaller, lighter and costlier than laptop computers. You can carry this computer with you when you are away on a business trip, can watch movies and access internet also.

The first notebook computer which was launched in the market in 1981 was expensive and was not as versatile like present day computers .Portable versions of laptops were launched in the market by IBM and Epsom in 1983.

With introduction of Windows 95, the world of notebook computers took a giant leap forward and was now able to compete with other personal computers because of the operating system and the advancement of technology. Prices of these computers started falling, attracting more consumers. Life of battery improved and acids were no longer required. The notebook computers now consumed less power and could hold more data.

Notebook computers come in various sizes. For a quick reference, have a look at the following figures (without power adaptors and accessories): Tablet PC - it weighs less that 3 lbs; Ultra Portable - it weighs less than 4 lbs and less than 1.3 inches thick with size between 10 and 11 inches; Thin and Light - it is between 1 and 1.4 inches thick and weighs between 5 to 7 lbs with size from 11 to 14 inches; Desktop replacements (Largest) - it is 1.5 inches thick and heavier than 7 lbs. Size between 11 and 13 inches.

Some important points are listed here which may help you to have an informed purchasing decision:

Size and Weight: The point to remember that while choosing a very lightweight and small size, you may have to sacrifice some items such as drives. So you have to decide what you want.

Processor: Note book processors perform like desktop processors. Dual core processors carry multitasking and are common. Notebook processors directly impact the battery life and performance of the computers. For Intel premier processor, higher the number, the faster it will process. The rotational speed of the disk also affects the performance of these computers.

Memory (RAM): For Windows XP and Mac OS X, at least 256 MB is required. However the capacity of RAM is increasing with new varieties of notebook computer and in some machines it is 2 GB even!

Displays and Video: In a notebook computer video consists of video processor and display. Again the display consists of native resolution and screen size. But portability will be reduced with larger display. These days the popularity for the wide screen displays is increasing. Performance of PC gaming and 3D graphics will be determined by graphic processor.

Drives: Optical drives play an important role in notebook computers. These may be simple CD ROM drives to the high definition DVD burners. Most notebook computers these days are equipped with a dual layer DVD burner.

Connections: Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, Fujitsu lifebook N6010 having trimode of 802.11a/b/g, etc are different wireless system available with notebook computers. Transferring rate of data depend on the type of wireless connection chosen.

Battery Life: Notebook computers come with four cell, 6 cell, and 8 cell batteries. Normal battery life is 2 to 3 hours. However 5 or 6 hours battery life is also available these days. Generally, the bigger the notebook computer, the lower is the battery life.

Article: CPU Overclocking

By Billy Zype

Overclocking CPU is a process to increase the GHz rating of the CPU. The formula to calculate the speed of the CPU is as follows - The product of the FSB in MHz and the multiplier is the speed in MHz.

FSB

The FSB is a short form for Front Side Bus. CPU manufacturers have detected a method to raise the effective speed of the FSB. This is done by just sending more instructions per clock cycle. Thus, in every clock cycle, sometimes two or four instructions are sent. This results in increasing the FSB twice and four times respectively. This is of utmost significance. The reason is that when overclocking of the CPU is done, the user deals with the real FSB speed of the CPU and not the effective CPU speed.

Multiplier

This is simply a number which when multiplied by the FSB speed results in the total speed of the CPU. For example, if there is a CPU that has a FSB of 300 MHz and a multiplier of 10, then the CPU speed becomes 3000 MHz or 3.0 GHz. In case of CPU's like the Intel CPU's since 1998, the multiplier is a fixed number and cannot be altered. On other CPU's like the AMD Athlon 64, this number is top locked. What is implied is that the multiplier can be altered to a lower number but cannot be changed to a higher number. In case of some CPU's, the multiplier is totally unlocked. In this case, it can be changed to any higher or lower number. This is suitable for the overclocker.

It is simpler to overclock the system by raising the multiplier rather than the FSB. The reason is that the multiplier affects only the CPU speed. Raising it means overclocking the CPU. However, if the FSB is altered it amounts to changing the speed of each single component that communicates with the CPU. Thus, this means overclocking all the other parts of the computer system as well. This can give rise to a number of problems. The components that are not meant to be overclocked are forced to do so and may fail to perform.

AMD Athlon 64 cpu

In case of these CPU's, the term Front Side Bus is a misnomer. This is actually called as a HTT. These CPU's do not have a FSB. This term is integrated with the chip. Due to this the FSB communicates with the CPU at a higher rate than

Article: Overclocking Videos

By Billy Zype

Overclocking in a proper way

In reality, there are a lot of ways which can tell a person whether he is overclocking in a proper way or not. There are various programs that can provide the person with a simple overclock interface and specific programs can tell him if his system is stable with a particular overclock. If the person's system is stable, he will be able to keep his card overclocked even when he is playing some intense games. But, he is recommended not to just overclock any second hand read up on the video downloads. He should read as much as possible to know about overclocking before he decides to go for it.

Overclocking video concepts

Overclocking videos present people with how they can adopt the overclocking concept to their daily life presenting with updated technology as per the software. Such overclocking videos present them with overclocking of laptops, video games, CPU connections and software for the same. The Laptop overclocking, for example, is quick, 100 percent free and easy. One can get an idea on such technology and benefit in their daily life and their business approach too.

A person can get familiar with the concept of Laptop overclocking, how to overclock ice cooling systems, how to overclock the graphic cards to increase power, overclocking the computer and many more. For instance, he can have an idea on how to overclock the graphic cards to increase power. The video provides him with steps for the same in a visual manner. At first, he has to start his PC and while in the registry field, he should type a specific code provided on the video. Then he should click on the NVTweak folder and after viewing it, he has to create a new Dword value and name it as Coolbits. He has to make sure he uses uppercase letters of C and B. This is a tweak and the person can go to his display properties and select advanced in the settings tab and go to his detonator. So, after he has done that, he should right click on his desktop-properties-settings-advanced- and click his graphics card tab.

There will be a new function named clock frequently setting, which he has to click and overclock his graphics card. The safest way to overclock is to click the detect optimal frequencies tab. Such videos are created by Ryan Raven for people to be familiar with and to have fun with overclocking.

Article: CRT Is Past - LCD Monitors Are Happening And Working

By Raisa Raima

Let us have a look at some of the known and unknown facts related to the LCD monitors so as to extract the optimal benefits from them.

A LCD monitor is aesthetically pleasing offering a wide viewing angle with exceptional colour purity, contrast and image brightness. It is protected against any kind of magnetic interference and screen flickers. It usually makes use of just 25-50 watts as compared to 60-80 watts used by a CRT monitor. The LCD monitors can be easily mounted on the walls. The USB ports that come with these monitors allow you to easily connect several devices at the same time. They have an exceptional response time, varying usually between 2-16 ms.

LCD monitors make use of the liquid crystal display to deliver smart desktop and laptop solutions. In a LCD monitor, the polarised sheets that are lying between the sandwiched liquid crystals are used. This phenomenon helps it to get a sleek and less bulky look as compared to a CRT monitor. These monitors are also energy-efficient, consuming only 1/3rd of the power used by CRT monitors. With a usual aspect ratio of 4:3, these cheap LCD monitors offer unmatched viewing experience to the users.

They easily add visual elements to your desktop and offer unbeatable multimedia applications to cater to your needs. The OSD controlling adjustment keys are easy-to-use and are not flimsy. LCDs are known to effectively gel with the digital form of inputs and most of the modern day LCDs can be easily tilted by a specific angle, a feature conducive to the needs of an office executive.

Now that we have learnt enough about the cheap LCD monitors, let us now move to some of the biggest names in this world followed by some do's and don'ts to get a good LCD deal.

Some of the most eminent names in the world of LCD monitors are ViewSonic and Samsung. The ViewSonic VX1945WM, ViewSonic VG2030WM and ViewSonic VX922 are some of the most highly acclaimed LCD monitors in the present day market

Things to remember:

The present day market is full of cheap LCD monitors but you need to be clear in your vision and priorities giving enough consideration to factors such as quality, price and customer service. Do not forget to check the dead pixel policy in the laptop warranty terms and conditions. This will come handy if your laptop gets affected by a large number of dead pixels. Check the image resolution, aspect ratio, image and sound quality, multimedia capabilities and screen size before making the payment. Get it installed through an expert and do not try your own hands, make sure to follow the instructions, if any, to ensure a consistent flow of the high-end solutions.

Article: How The Computer Memory System Works

By Mike Sevlon

You are probably tied to your computer with work and personal use. It is not surprising considering how much time is spent working on computers each day. The world would come to a grinding halt without them. But they cannot work if they do not have the right amount of computer memory installed.

Everything your pc performs, from software to hardware, involves the computer's storage. It can also mean the difference between having a fast computer and having one that takes forever.

Your laptop or desktop memory is very important. It is how the pc runs and how the software runs. It is certainly more than just being able to save a document you are typing or being able to download a song. The memory computer systems need is centered around how fast it can run and how quickly data can be loaded.

A pc's memory is the amount of storage on it. Taking for example generic memory, when a pc stores information in its temporary memory it is able to run much faster.

The process of accessing computer storage is very easy. The Central Processing Unit (or CPU) wants to use the closest information it can find first. So it stores vital information to keep the computer running efficiently in a temporary storage or cache first.

Only after looking in this file will the pc search through the long term permanent storage. Both desktop computers and notebooks use this same method for gathering its information.

There are a few terms you need to know when it comes to your computer's memory. The first is RAM which stands for Random Access Memory. The second is ROM (Read-Only Memory).

The third is OS which stands for Operating System and finally BIOS which is Basic Input/Output System. Each of these terms is used to describe how the pc's storage is used to access the information and load the systems.

Computer memory can seem a bit complicated. There are a lot of terms to know and it can be confusing. The best summary is that the faster the computer is, the more it needs to keep a temporary folder to access information.

Think of it like a Post-It note that you write down a phone number on when you are in a hurry. You will not leave the number on there if it is important, you will save it someplace else. But you have it there for quick reference.

Article: Types of Computer Monitors and Their Costs

By Urbain Bech

Your monitor is an important accessory to your computer. Computer monitors are available in different sizes and styles and some offer various functions, such as a built-in speaker system. You will obviously consider what type of monitor you can afford but may also want to consider how often you will be using your computer and how you will be using it.

How Computer Monitor Sizes are Measured

Monitors are available in 15, 17, 19 and 21 inch sizes. The size of a monitor is the viewable area of the screen, which is measured diagonally (i.e., from the upper right corner of the screen to the lower left corner of the screen and vice versa). These diagonal measurements are of the screen only and not the computer monitor's casing. Regardless of what type of monitor you decide to purchase, the larger the monitor, the more expensive the monitor will be. However, if you use your computer several hours a day, you will experience less eye strain with a larger monitor.

CRT Computer Monitors Deliver Usability and Bargain Prices

If you are looking for an extra monitor or just want something cheap for your home office or kids, the CRT monitor will probably be the most economical option.

Although they are big and bulky, CRT monitors will work just fine for basic home computing uses such as sending and receiving email, playing video games, or running a word processing program. These types of activities do not require an expensive or elaborate monitor.

A standard CRT (cathode ray tube) computer monitor works like a standard CRT television, accounting for its television-like appearance and bulk. Many people are switching to the less bulky flat screen monitors and as a result, the prices of CRT computer monitors are dropping. I have found refurbished CRT monitors at auction for just $12. Brand new CRTs might run anywhere from $40 to $100, which is just a fraction of the cost of the flashier LCD monitors.

LCD Monitors Are Less Expensive Than They Used to Be

They look sharp. They're elegant. And they don't take up a lot of space. For these and other reasons, many computer users these days are choosing the more advanced LCD (liquid crystal display) computer monitors for home and business use. Nowadays, the flat screen LCD monitors are often packaged with a new computer system. LCD monitors are lighter and flatter than CRT monitors, and can be more energy efficient and produce sharper pictures.

While the prices for LCD monitors are falling since their initial appearance in the market, they are still more expensive than CRT monitors. Generally speaking, an LCD monitor will cost around four times as much as a CRT monitor.

Considerations for Choosing Your Monitor

Whether you choose to buy a CRT or LCD computer monitor, you will want to choose the size that you will be most comfortable with. As mentioned above, the more time you sit in front of the computer, the more you will benefit from a larger view screen. Although larger monitor screens can be beneficial, you want to make sure that the monitor will fit in the area where you will be using it, and will fit your budget as well.

There are some fantastic deals for any type of computer monitor online. If you are looking for something reliable but have a tight budget, you can save quite a bit of money by purchasing a refurbished model. Before buying a new or refurbished computer monitor online, however, review the warranty. Check out the shipping costs, too. Because of their size and weight, shipping costs for CRT monitors can get pricey. Some online vendors offer free shipping.

Estate sales, garage sales and yard sales are excellent resources for used CRT or LCD monitors ... and of course, you avoid shipping fees if you shop locally. When buying from individuals, see if the seller can plug the monitor in and demonstrate that it is in good working order. You can find any type of monitor at your local computer shop.

Regardless of whether you are purchasing a new monitor online or offline, make sure that it is compatible with your computer.

Article: Oki c5510 Supplies That Are Compatible Saves Money Without Giving Up Quality

By Ben Pate

Small business owners are aware of how much the price copier and printer toner can eat into profits. What many people don't know is that there are toner cartridges on the market that, while not being a name brand, are both safe and reliable for use in their printers, and also cost significantly less. For example, let me tell you the story of what happened when one of our clients purchased a big supply of remanufactured Oki 5510 compatible toner cartridges.

As a project manager for a mid-sized regional restaurant equipment company, one of Frank McNamara's duties is to stock up on toner cartridges. After his complete research on cost and quality, Frank chose an online distributor who sold a compatible Oki toner cartridge for a third to 1/2 the cost of the Oki brand name toner. The outcome was an impressive sixteen percent saved on his entire budget for the month.

He asked a couple of his employees to use the remanufactured cartridges in his fleet of two-hundred Oki c5510n printers. At first, he was skeptical, but he soon realized that the compatible inks were the same as the high-cost genuine toners he had purchased before. "I checked out some of the copies personally," Frank wrote, "and they looked good - good ink yield, adequate coverage, no smudges."

Article: Web Design Vs. Print Design: How to Compromise

By: Moe Tamani

Some web designers personally create print backgrounds for the web pages that they design. These web designers probably worked in the print design industry before making the transition to the web design company that they work for now. That or they are used to the degree of control print media offers web page designers. Print, unlike the Web, offers both stability and permanence. Neither are characteristics commonly attributed to the Web. It is, however, all too easy to forget that fact.As you go through the process of creating your web page and adjusting it to match your design parameters, your web design company will undoubtedly require that you test your page in various browsers to ensure compatibility. It is almost inevitable that your web page will look slightly different when viewed from different browsers. This should serve to remind web designers of the impermanence and lack of stability of web media.Your web design company will probably require that you interact with your clients throughout the design process. You should take steps to ensure that the clients understand that the portfolios and design plans that you provide them with may not accurately represent the final look of the website. Often, web design companies receive complaints from customers who feel that the web pages created for them differ too much from the print-outs that they were shown by the web designers. In order to save yourself a significant amount of trouble, you must learn the best way to work with clients and educate them about the difficulties and realities of web design. Only if they understand the difficulties of making web design conform to print media will clients be inclined to give you some leeway in the final design of their project.Although it is definitely a good practice to maintain a printed portfolio for the benefit of clients, your responsibility as a web designer is to inform them that the printed material is not entirely accurate in representing your web design skills. After they have viewed your portfolio, you must ensure that they understand that the final web page design may look very different when viewed on a computer than when viewed on paper. Make sure that your clients understand the repercussions of any requests that they may have, such as slower load times if graphics are included. Most importantly, find out which platform your client prefers to use. The differences between pages viewed on Internet Explorer and the same pages viewed on Netscape can be very large. Avoid completing your project on one platform only to find that it looks entirely different on the platform that your customers are using. The differences between print media and web design can be difficult to overcome. However, there are some general rules and methods that you can utilize in order to help you overcome these problems.• Have a good understanding of your audience. It is essential for you to know who the people visiting your site will be and also your client’s target audience. If you understand their characteristics and probably behavior, you can better tailor your web pages to suit your audience. Highly proficient users will most likely browse your website using UNIX or Linux on large screen monitor while more typical users will likely use Internet Explorer on a smaller monitor. The differences are important to ensure that your clients do not have any complaints about your work.• Testing is enormously important. You must test your design on every available web browser and operating system that is available to you. For those that you are really unable to obtain, then the use of emulators provides an acceptable last resort. However, you should only resort to using emulators if you really have no choice. No matter how good the emulator that you use is, nothing can compare with being to properly test your web design on a real system.• Resolution is another aspect that you must consider. Resolution can have a large impact on the final viewing experience your website provides. If your clients and their target audience view your website using a browser setting that is smaller than you have designed the site for, then it is likely that your clients will demand that you rework the website to their satisfaction. As you work through the process of incorporating your page design into your project, bear in mind that although using CSS can help you obtain more precise layouts, web media is not, and never will be, as precise as print media. Understanding this simple fact may save you and your web design company a lot of trouble.

Article: 6 Web Design Tips to Grab Attention

By: Moe Tamani

As every good website design specialist knows, a well designed web page is able to draw the focus of readers to the content, news and events that the client you are designing the page for specifies. Of the many methods that can be used to accomplish this, often the easiest and simplest method is to simply modify the size of headline font. Using a moderately larger font to highlight headlines is very useful for attracting the attention of readers. Newspaper and media companies understand this concept well, and a great web design company should too. Using Typography to Capture AttentionMost website design specialists should be familiar with the idea of changing different aspects of the font used on a website in order to capture the attention of readers. It is important to note, however, that this does not mean making headlines as large as possible. There are some general guidelines concerning typography that every web design company should know and adhere to. Some of the more important ones are as follows:o Web Design Tip #1: Only emphasize the most important content. Having large fonts throughout the site makes it unattractive and will not successfully engage readers. A good web design company understands that only headlines that are of particular interest to customers should be highlighted. You should only highlight headlines that will make readers read the rest of the text because they really want to know more. You should also keep the font size at an acceptable level. Ridiculously huge font sizes are not attractive to readers at all.o Web Design Tip #2: Larger is a relative term. Having a headline with larger font means making the font larger than that used for the rest of the text. Make sure the headline font is not too much bigger than the normal text, because that would look ridiculous. Having a huge headline but text that a reader has to squint at to read is not likely to attract any positive attention.o Web Design Tip #3: Determine beforehand what font sizes to use and when. A good web design specialist gets the client to decide which headlines and titles should be highlighted through an increase in font size and also exactly what font size to use. You can then follow this standard throughout the duration of the project. Your web design company will benefit from this agreement, because it will allow you to properly refuse any last-minute requests from clients to change the font size of particular headlines or titles. Font size is not the only aspect of fonts that can be varied in order to increase readership of the web page that you are designing. Changing other aspects of the font you use can also be effective. You can switch between fonts from the same family in order to highlight certain points or content. For example, using the font Sans-Serif for most of the page and using Serif, which is more striking, to highlight more important content. Other properties of fonts that can be varied are color, weight and style. Bold or italicized font is also attention-grabbing.Fonts are not the only option to consider when trying to make parts of your website stand out and capture the attention of online readers. Modifying other aspects of the site can also prove useful in attempting to improve readership. Some of them are listed here:o Web Design Tip #4: One word – pictures. Pictures are a universal form of communication and they are very effective at making your web page more interesting, holding the attention of readers longer.o Web Design Tip #5: Use different templates. Changing the way content, links and menus are arranged is a good way to keep readers interested in your site, instead of letting them become bored with a repetitive design.o Web Design Tip #6: Make use of animations. If a picture says a thousand words, then a moving picture says a million of them. Your web design company or your client may request that the site you make contain animations, which are even better than pictures at grabbing the attention of visitors to the site. Remember that animations take longer to load than normal web pages, however, and heavily animated web sites may take longer to load than the reader is willing to spend waiting.By using the techniques that have been laid out in this article, capturing the attention of readers may seem like a relatively easy task. A good web design specialist must remember, however, not to overdo it. While it is all too easy to fill your website with all manner of colourful, oversized text, you must remember that the aim is to make certain points stand out. Also, you must learn to use your judgment in deciding the magnitude of emphasis awarded to different types of content. A sale definitely does not merit as much emphasis as a global conflict. Therefore it is in your best interests, and those of your web design company,to ensure that emphasis is given in proportion to the importance of the content.

Article: SEO, the HTML Source Code and Competition

By: Ricci Mathew

You have a business, and ever since you started an SEO campaign, business has been good and most of your business enquiries have been coming via your website. You are getting professional SEO support and an ongoing SEO program takes care of all your SEO work. They have optimized your website such as to attract a fairly good quantity of relevant incoming traffic which has been resulting in good business enquiries and sales. As you are ignorant on this issue it is making you anxious. They have always been your stiff competitors so you can't just call them up and ask about it! So what do you do?

Ok, if you want to find out if your competitors are also optimizing their website it is a very simple process to find it out. It is not necessary for you to send some one to spy on your competitors to get this information as it will only take you a few minutes to easily find out and confirm this information online. All you need to do is just go to your competitor’s website and check on its HTML source Code!

This is how one should go about it. Go to the concerned site's homepage on the browser and click on "view" and choose "source" and the HTML source code page opens up. If you are using Internet Explorer 2.x, right-click on the web page, and then click View Source. To view the HTML source code for a web page that contains frames, right- click the web page in a frame, and then choose "view source". Looking at this page you will be able to get the required information.

On this HTML source code page, just see if there are main keywords in the header tags KEYWORDS , the title tags , and in the image alt tags KEYWORDS alt>. These are always located near the top of the source code. Also if the content on the webpage has been optimized for the search engines, you will find that the text on the web page contains a minimal repeated use of the keyword. eCommerce SEO Onsite Tips

By: Mike Bradbury

According to Nielsen net ratings, every month, about half of all search engine queries are unique. This statistic, although vague and seemingly insignificant, is actually the greatest factor behind why eCommerce Soltuions fare so well in search. We interpret the statistic like this: Half of all searches cannot be predicted, the other half can be. Great. So what does that have to do with eCommerce? The reason why eCommerce and SEO are better for each other than Forrest was for Jenny is due to the massive amount of content contained within the average eCommerce solution and that content's ability to target both predictable and unpredictable (long-tail) search phrases. eCommerce solutions have a major advantage over any other database driven site for a number of reasons.

Abundant Content: Unlike a blog, article directory or content managed site, thousands of search engine friendly pages can be literally uploaded and indexed by the search engines.

Easy Unique Content: A product or category page needs a few tech specs and a brief description. As long as that content is unique to the site, a webmaster can litter the search engines with products and categories. The time it would take for a blog or content managed site to reach that same level using unique content is staggering.

Targeting the Predictable & Unpredictable: Category pages can be targeted for predictable searches like "red widgets." Product pages can capture the unpredictable ones like "red widgets with tassels"(provided they contain keyword-rich descriptions). So how can you make the most of your eCommerce solution in the search engines? As promised here is a list of general tips. Most Importantly:

Pick the right solution: Get an eCommerce provider that allows you to do everything we mention in this list. And hey, what do you know? Bridgeline's eCommerce Solution lets you do all of this… Crazy how that works out, no?

Onsite Optimization Tips

Unique title tags: The content contained within should not be repeated verbatim within the site.

Put your site name after the product or category name in the title tag: Use your site to Brand, use your search engine listing to get clicks.

Unique meta data: Take the time to make your meta data (description & keywords) unique for each page. Obviously, that can be tricky if you have 10,000 skus, so try and get your developer to populate that area with the product description.

Use H1 tags: And put your keywords in them. Go to your source. Search for '

Use more than manufacturer data: If your product pages only contain the specs and descriptions that your manufacturer provides, the search engines will lump that product page together with the hundreds of other ones out there with the same specs and descriptions, meaning it won't find its way into the search engine result pages (SERPS).

Take the time to add unique copy to your product and category pages

Link to other products and categories from that copy

Use alt tags: I know. I heard too. They're useless. Use them anyway. SEO is about a conglomeration of variables, not a single supreme one.

Have a clear category tree: Search engines like that.

Use a search engine friendly navigation: Text links are best. Don't like text and want to use images? Make sure you use alt tags. Using flash or doing postbacks? Stop that!

Create an XML based sitemap and put it in Google webmaster tools

Article: Black Hat SEO

By: Alvin Ng

Black Hat SEO refers to techniques used by webmasters to optimize their websites that are not approved of by search engines, Google in particular. Why not? Because these techniques often produce websites that are not relevant to the user, which is against what Google or any other search engines is trying to achieve.

Black Hat SEO involve the use of 1 or more methods to 'cheat' the search engines into thinking that the webpage is relevant, such as spamming it with keywords that are not related to the topic.

I shall not go into too much of Black Hat stuff since I, admittedly, do not know much of this. Instead, I will talk about the common ones that you might use without even knowing it.

Keyword Stuffing
Using as many keywords as possible, spamming it to increase the keyword density. Write your content naturally, do not attempt to squeeze in unneccessary keywords and you will be safe.

A more common usage of this is to stuff keywords into the webpage title. Never ever repeat the same word in the title, and keep it to less than 80 characters.

Hidden text
Some webmasters hide their text from visitors. Why would anyone do that? Simple, because the text doesn't make sense. Usually, this is text that are stuffed with keywords. Common methods of hiding text are by placing them on a same coloured background (e.g white text on white background), or using CSS to hide them.

Link Farms
This is highly dangerous as inexperienced webmasters might link to link farms, getting their website banned. Link farms are webpages that have high number of outbound links, and little content. The purpose of them is to increase backlinks to the webpages it links to. Link farms and websites linking to it will get banned by Google.

Any website found linking to a banned website will be associated with it, resulting in a ban for that website. The websites that the banned website links to will be safe though, since it can be a sabotage from a competitor.

It is easy to identify link farms. Webpages with high number of outbound links with little or no content.

Some websites just dump all their reciprocal links on 1 page, resulting in an unintentional link farm. Always check the websites you exchanged links with periodically.

URL Cloaking
This is used to show 1 webpage to visitors, and another to show to search engines. The version for search engines usually are highly optimized (such as keyword stuffing), but doesn't make sense to a human visitor, hence the need to hide it from them.

Automated Link Networks
There are websites that participate in link programs where they gain backlinks from other members. In return, they have to link to other member websites. This type of mindless linking to websites not of your niche will not only benefit you, but risk of a ban by Google.

Link farms are considered a link network. There are newer link networks out there that are not banned by Google yet. These are more sophiscated and require a coding file to be uploaded to your website, which I have mentioned before in Building Backlinks.

I would advise you not to join such networks. They might claim that it is not black hat, but put it simply, who will admit their system is imperfect? There is a high possibility that it will be banned in future.

Article: 5 Steps to Writing Killer SEO Copy!

By: Michael Small

Good SEO copywriters earn as much as $300 an hour. And that can be a bargain! Why? Because of something called the natural text algorithm (NTA). A few years ago Google started using NTAs to spot Web pages that were written more for search engines than real people. Correction, spot and penalize such pages is a more accurate statement.

The NTAs were clunky at first and really not much of a threat. But times have changed! Today's natural text algorithms can interpret the natural flow of written communication at the same level as a college student. The game has definitely changed. But don't worry. This is great news for you if you learn five simple steps the pros use to get top ranking and earn the big bucks.

Step 1: List your three top keywords in order of importance and then put the list aside. If you are interested in the technical nuts and bolts, right now we are establishing the topics of content.

Step 2: Call a friend and describe your Website's product or service. Feel free to show your excitement but try not to oversell.

Step 3: Write out what you said to your friend, word for word, or come as close as possible. If you can record the call, that's even better. Don't worry about correct sentence structure or anything else your last English teacher taught you. Jot down the conversation just as you spoke it. This is your "story." The ability to tell it naturally, as if chatting with your closest friend, is the best way to sway both the natural text algorithm AND the reader.

Step 4: Take out your keyword list and try to fit your most important keyword within the first sentence or two of your story. Now, still in the first paragraph, slip your second keyword somewhere in the middle. And then place your third search term (keyword) toward the end, but only if it fits naturally. If not, simply place it somewhere in the middle of the second paragraph. The beginning of the second paragraph is reserved for your top keyword again. Now feature only one keyword per paragraph for the remainder of your story (except the final paragraph.) Here's how to do it... Like we already said, begin the second paragraph with an early mention of your most critical keyword. Mention your second most important keyword toward the beginning of your third paragraph and so on for your final keyword. Don't use any keyword more than three times before the final paragraph. Here you have addressed both consistency and proximity. These are both key elements to SEO copywriting success.

Step 5: When you reach the bottom paragraph switch the order you have been following. In other words, start it off with your least important keyword and end it with your most important. This enhances the consistency and reinforces the importance of your topics (or keywords.)

It's that simple. Just remember the wise words of legendary SEO copywriter Karon Thackston "All Customers Are NOT the Same...Most Search Engines ARE." (Quoted from http://www.bestSEOcopywriting.com)

Article: Top Search Engine Rankings

By: Terry Dunford

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the most vital responsibility a site owner can perform to ensure success. Over 92% of all traffic to websites is from a search engine. Therefore, to guarantee traffic you have to do what is essential so that your primary keywords escalate to the very top of the search engines. I will provide the knowledge necessary to engage a successful SEO journey. I will enlighten you to the top three factors in getting high rankings.

Undoubtedly, the most imperative onsite factor is to integrate your site's primary keyword in the Title Tag. The title tag (Keyword and Business Name) is the very first html tag under the top starting tag. The Title Tag information appears on the very top left of the internet browser. Search engines also use the title tag information for the outgoing links to websites. Additionally, there are several basic guidelines that must be followed when writing the content of the Title Tag. First, it's an absolute necessity to always commence with your primary keyword. For instance, a Maui Bed and Breakfast website should proceed like the following:

Maui Bed and Breakfast | Sweet Escape Maui

Please note that the primary keyword is the opening phrase. Also note that a "|" instead of a comma or hyphen was used. The preceding segment of the Title Tag is the business name; however, including secondary keywords can be an alternative if you choose. The Title Tag should not be more than 5 to 7 words. Keyword Prominence is also a significant factor in determining rank. Prominence is how close to the beginning of the section that the keyword is placed. As a general rule, a keyword that is placed closer to the top of the page, near the start of a paragraph, or in close proximity to the commencement of a tag will be more significant. A Keyword Prominence of at least 64% is suggested for the Title area. We will accomplish that by putting our primary keyword at the very beginning and by maintaining a word count of 5 to 7 words.

The second most important factor in high search engine rankings is the anchor text of incoming links. The anchor text is the evident, clickable text in a hyperlink. The words appearing in the Anchor text can conclude the ranking the site will obtain by search engines. An approach to achieve this crucial step is to acquire incoming links to your site from other websites. Contact topically related sites and exchange links or request that they supply a link on their Links Page. If a site approves your request, then it's imperative that you request that they use your primary keyword as the anchor text. Usually, it is customary to provide the following information when requesting link exchanges:

1.Title of hyperlink. This is the anchor text. Therefore, this is where you want to include your primary keyword within the link title.

2.The URL of the website.

3.The description. You should provide a short, but very concise summary of what your site is about, while including as many important keywords as you can.

4.Also, if you are exchanging links, then you should post the link of the site you are submitting this information to on your Links Page and then let the person know where your Links Page is located so they can verify that you have already placed their link on your site. If you do this, external websites will have extra incentive to link back.

The third most pertinent factor is the Global Link Popularity of the website. This is the combined link authority as calculated by links from every single site across the internet, which also includes quality and mass. There are numerous ways to attain high Link Popularity. The best method is to contact as many external websites as you can and request a link exchange as described above. It is also an essential factor to exchange links with topically related websites, that is to say websites that contain similar content. Always check the PageRank of the sites you research. Getting your link on high PageRank (preferably PageRank 4 and above) sites is tremendously essential and will be a determining factor in getting high rankings.

Getting top rankings on the search engines is a demanding undertaking that requires hours of work on a weekly basis. It takes time to email other site owners to request a link exchange. It takes time to fully optimize your site; nevertheless, this time will be well spent. Countless people don't comprehend the importance of SEO. They are more concerned about the look and feel of their website. The finest looking website will be utterly useless if it cannot acquire visitors. The only way it can get a vast amount of visitors is to carry out SEO. Since search engines generate over 92% of all traffic to websites, it would be logical to spend that crucial time working on your keyword rankings.

There are numerous significant factors in acquiring high rankings. Check back soon to read the advanced methods in achieving high search engine rankings. I will describe a few imperative trade secrets and provide you with an arsenal of tactics to use on your SEO adventure.

Article: Google's SEO Advice For Your Website: Content

By: Raj Kamta

The web pages actually at the top of Google have only one thing clearly in common: good writing. Don't get so caught up in the usual SEO sacred cows and bugbears, such as PageRank, frames, and JavaScript, that you forget your site's content.

I was recently struck by the fact that the top-ranking web pages on Google are consistently much better written than the vast majority of what one reads on the web.

Of course, that shouldn't be a surprise, considering how often officials at Google proclaim the importance of good content. Yet traditional SEO wisdom has little to say about good writing.

Does Google, the world's wealthiest media company, really ignore traditional standards of quality in the publishing world? Does Google, like so many website owners, really get so caught up in the process of the algorithm that it misses the whole point?

Apparently not.

Most Common On-the-Page Website Content Success Features

Whatever the technical mechanism, Google is doing a pretty good job of identifying websites with good content and rewarding them with high rankings.

I looked at Google's top five pages for the five most searched-on keywords, as identified by Word Tracker on June 27, 2005. Typically, the top five pages receive an overwhelming majority of the traffic delivered by Google.

The web pages that contained written content (a small but significant portion were image galleries) all shared the following features:

* Updating: frequent updating of content, at least once every few weeks, and more often, once a week or more.

* Spelling and grammar: few or no errors. No page had more than three misspelled words or four grammatical errors. Note: spelling and grammar errors were identified by using Microsoft Word's check feature, and then ruling out words marked as misspellings that are either proper names or new words that are simply not in the dictionary. Does Google use Spell-check? I can already hear the scoffing on the other side of this computer screen. Before you dismiss the idea completely, keep in mind that no one really does know what the 100 factors in Google's algorithm are. But whether the mechanism is Spell-check or a better shot at link popularity thanks to great credibility, or something else entirely, the results remain the same.

* Paragraphs: primarily brief (1-4 sentences). Few or no long blocks of text.

* Lists: both bulleted and numbered, form a large part of the text.

* Sentence length: mostly brief (10 words or fewer). Medium-length and long sentences are sprinkled throughout the text rather than clumped together.

* Contextual relevance: text contains numerous terms related to the keyword, as well as stem variations of the keyword.

SEO Bugbears and Sacred Cows

A hard look at the results shows that, practically speaking, a number of SEO bugbears and sacred cows may matter less to ranking than good content.

* PageRank. The median PageRank was 4. One page had a PageRank of 0. Of course, this might simply be yet another demonstration that the little PageRank number you get in your browser window is not what Google's algo is using. But if you're one of those people who attaches an overriding value to that little number, this is food for thought.

* Frames. The top two web pages listed for the most searched-on keyword employ frames. Frames may still be a bad web design idea from a usability standpoint, and they may ruin your search engine rankings if your site's linking system depends on them. But there are worse ways you could shoot yourself in the foot.

* JavaScript-formatted internal links. Most of the websites use JavaScript for their internal page links. Again, that's not the best web design practice, but there are worse things you could do.

* Links: Most of the web pages contained ten or more links; many contain over 30, in defiance of the SEO bugbears about "link popularity bleeding." Moreover, nearly all the pages contained a significant number of non-relevant links. On many pages, non-relevant links outnumbered relevant ones. Of course, it's not clear what benefit the website owners hope to get from placing irrelevant links on pages. It has been a proven way of lowering conversion rates and losing visitors. But Google doesn't seem to care if your website makes money.

* Originality: a significant number of pages contained content copied from other websites. In all cases, the content was professionally written content apparently distributed on a free-reprint basis. Note: the reprint content did not consist of content feeds. However, no website consisted solely of free-reprint content. There was always at least a significant portion of original content, usually the majority of the page.

Recommendations

* Make sure a professional writer, or at least someone who can tell good writing from bad, is creating your site's content, particularly in the case of a search-engine optimization campaign. If you are an SEO, make sure you get a pro to do the content. A shocking number of SEOs write incredibly badly. I've even had clients whose websites got fewer conversions or page views after their SEOs got through with them, even when they got a sharp uptick in unique visitors. Most visitors simply hit the "back" button when confronted with the unpalatable text, so the increased traffic is just wasted bandwidth.

* If you write your own content, make sure that it passes through the hands of a skilled copyeditor or writer before going online.

* Update your content often. It's important both to add new pages and update existing pages. If you can't afford original content, use free-reprint content.

* Distribute your content to other websites on a free-reprint basis. This will help your website get links in exchange for the right to publish the content. It will also help spread your message and enhance your visibility. Fears of a "duplicate content penalty" for free-reprint content (as opposed to duplication of content within a single website) are unjustified.

In short, if you have a mature website that is already indexed and getting traffic, you should consider making sure the bulk of your investment in your website is devoted to its content, rather than graphic design, old-school search-engine optimization, or linking campaigns.

Article: Off-Page Optimisation

By: Andy Woolfe

Off page optimisation or search engine optimisation is a way of getting your site to improve its search engine rankings. The only thing you can do off-site to increase your rankings is get more back links (getting links to your site from outside sources). The greater amount of links you can get then generally this will lead to higher Page rank in Google and better search engine rankings.

When you are trying to acquire more links you need to aim for quality rather than quantity, not all links are created equal and links from low quality sites will have little or no impact on your rankings. The best types of links that you can get are from trusted sources such as universities, directories such as dmoz and Yahoo or even getting involved in forums that are related to your site even joining Yahoo ask can help,

You should also look at joining Social Book marking sites such as Face book, My Space, Digg and so on.

Writing articles about your product is also a very good way to get links and traffic to your website, this can be done in a few ways either by writing them yourself or there are companies that for a fee can write them for you, these are known as ghost writers. You can either then pay a submission company to submit your articles for you or you can submit your articles to article directories yourself.

It is sometimes difficult to spot the good links; here are a few questions you should ask yourself when you are looking at sites or pages to get links from.

Is this site or page relevant to my site?

Is this site linking out to any low quality non related sites?

Is this site or page going to send my site the right sort of traffic?

Is this site or page ranking well in the search engines?

Does this site have a lot of links from other websites?

Another thing to enforce is when the search engines look at the text (known as anchor text) that links to your site, if you are trying to rank for the phrase "houses for sale" make sure that the site you are wanting to link to uses that anchor text for your link, you should always try to use that type of text but also try to vary the text so as not to make it look un-natural, try using "houses for sale in England" or "English houses for sale" by including that phrase in the text or the alt tag of the link then that is going to help your website to rank higher for that particular phrase.

Take these things into consideration, when submitting links to other sites and you will be on your way towards good off page Optimisation and good rankings in the search engines.

Article: The Google Feedback Loop For Quality Traffic

By: Hanit Piplani

**For this to work, you need some kind of tracking for your website/web pages that tells you which search engines send people to you for what keyword searches.

Now truly, for a website owner there is nothing more fascinating than their own stats, so if you don't have good tracking software yet, do go out and get some.

There are many versions about, still many free ones available, and please, DO get started with tracking your pages and their performance.***

Now, let's get started.

The Google feedback loop works very simply and like this.

Let's say you have a website and you find out that a particular phrase turns up in those search engine referrals which sends you some people reliably, week in, week out.

It doesn't matter if it's only a few, what DOES matter is that this is ALREADY HAPPENING.

Therein lays the key!

As an example, I noted that just because there was a phrase that related to this by accident in one of my essays, I got some 14 people sent to me because they were searching for "symbols of eternal love". Down the list a bit further, there were another 9 who wanted "eternal love symbols", and then the many more single queries with random variations on that phrase.

A total of fifty visitors who would otherwise have gone elsewhere, every month, on that one key phrase.

That's nice and as it doesn't cost us anything beyond a little time and ingenuity, and ...

... and this is IMPORTANT! ...

... and as I can PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION on this key phrase because that is completely within the brief of my site and what I do ...

I can now begin to enter into the "Google feedback loop".

So now, I shall expand on this idea of "symbols of eternal love".

I'll keep the original article and reference just the way it is, but I'm going to HYPERLINK the phrase where it appears in the text, and make another page with USEFUL AND MORE IN DEPTH information on "eternal symbols of love", including images, references and natural language copy.

When I do this, the following happens.

Firstly, we don't lose what traffic we are already getting by NOT CHANGING THE ORIGINAL REFERRING PAGE.

That's important!

Secondly, we are now offering the visitors MORE AND BETTER information on what they are looking for, and this will be appreciated and can be used as a starting point for a further relationship with the visitor - they may go from there to download something, or perhaps bookmark your pages because you're on the right vibe, perhaps buy something or tell a friend or a group they're on, or a forum, to go check out your site - all sorts of things can and do happen from there.

Thirdly, and this is where the "feedback loop" happens, you now have MORE and MORE VARIED keywords relating to the topic to show, more content and this will BRING YOU UP HIGHER in the rankings for that search overall - which results in MORE people clicking on your site's link, which in turn helps with your rankings.

Well, perhaps I should have called this a feedback SPIRAL because what NOW happens is that not only do you get more than your original 50 people coming every month, but you also get that same effect again - there might well be SOME THING on your further page that brings in that first flow of visitors for ANOTHER specific key phrase which can be treated in much the same way - hyperlinked to a new page with more in depth information and even better quality content.

Go on like this for a while with the FAVOURITES amongst your key phrases, and you really will:

1. Find whole new "markets" or groups of visitors you've never had access to before;

2. Get more people for the already existing content as your site moves up in the rankings;

3. EVOLVE your site and your web presence in a very safe and expansive way - and without risking being dropped for the original content because that doesn't change.

A last word of advice before I go.

PLEASE stay within the context of what you're doing.

No-one is served by having visitors who are the wrong crowd for your services or plans or desires.

If you are selling sun flowers, there is NO POINT in going after keywords relating to audio engineering or motorway maintenance.

Ok so you might get a bunch of visitors, but they WON'T stay, WON'T buy and WON'T do anything other than pass through like a breeze in the night and leave you wondering why you get hits but no sales!

If you *do* stay within the brief or context of what you are doing, and you go after the keywords and key phrases that MAKE SENSE in the context of your site, on the other hand, the "Google Feedback Loop" is an EXCELLENT way to improve quality traffic long term, and reliably.

Article: SEO That Works! Keywords, Content and Links

By: Michael Small

Search engine optimization has been around almost as long as search engines have. It probably started about five minutes after someone realized there was money to be made on the Web, but only if your site could be found easily enough.

The reason for optimizing a Web page is the same today as it was a decade ago but the methods have changed quite a bit. Actually the methods seem to change every few months but a lot of this is just hype and fads. The three things that will get you to number 1 on Google are the same today as they were in 1998; keywords, content and links. And the thing that keeps you at the top is constant monitoring.

Keywords are easy to find with the right tool. But please don't go buying any fancy keyword software just yet. We'll use Google's free keyword research tool in just a minute and that's more than good enough to do the trick. Before we do that though there's one very important thing to consider; good keywords are only half the battle. We want to find the best keywords with the least competition.

Part 1: Find 3 Great Keywords

These are the Big 3 considerations in selecting the best keywords: The most descriptive keyword...With the most searches performed...And the least competing Web pages is the one you want.

Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and type any keyword or phrase you believe your future visitors are looking for. You can use the three boxes with blue fill to determine how much that term is searched as well as its bidding competition. But don't stop there! Once you find a great keyword go to Goggle and run a search on it. See how many pages you get for matches by checking the right hand side of the blue bar on top (Results 1 - 10 of about 3,300,000 for...)

Now do this twice more so you have a total of three great keywords and/or phrases. Then write them down and rate them 1 through 3, with 1 being most important.

Part 2: Use the Content Formula

Create your page content by writing ten or more paragraphs. Each paragraph can be just a few sentences long or longer if you'd like. Write your page content as close to how you would speak it in normal conversation as possible. Google and all the best engines use a natural text algorithm (NTA) that sees through Spammy text in a heartbeat. Here's the formula...

Paragraph 1: Make this paragraph one of the longest and use each of your top three keywords one time. Use your number 1 keyword as close to the first word as possible. Use the number two keyword somewhere in the second sentence if possible but no later than the third sentence. Now use your number 3 keyword anywhere after number 2.

Paragraph 2: Use your number 1 keyword one time within the first one third of the paragraph text. If your paragraph is 100 words long, make sure the keyword is placed within the first 33 words, the closer to the beginning the better.

Paragraphs 3 and 4: Do the same as above using your number 2 keyword in paragraph three and number 3 keyword in paragraph four.

Paragraphs 5 through 9: Now mix things up a bit and use one or more keywords anywhere in each paragraph. Just do not use any single keyword more than three times total before you reach your final paragraph.

Paragraph 10: In your very last paragraph we will do exactly the same as we did in the first paragraph, but in reverse. Start it with your least important keyword and end with your most important.

This formula works extremely well. With the right links you can dominate Google in no time!

Part 3: Get Great Links

If you want to understand just how important linking is for Google, it will help you to know that Google itself was invented by a Ph.D. student as part of his dissertation project. The idea behind that project was to determine and rate information on the Web by its link value. Twelve years and one name change later, this is still Google's main focus.

There are entire books dedicated to getting good links for Google rankling so I'm not gong to try to reinvent the wheel here. I'll just offer a few tips that I wish someone had offered me when I was learning all of this.

Tip 1: Try to get as many "Authority Links" as possible. These are links that Google and other important engines feel are the highest valued. The short definition is these are the links that come up on top of Google for your keyword and who link out appropriately (doesn't have too many outbound links on a gape, don't sell links, etc.)

Tip 2: Constantly monitor the sites you link to and immediately remove any that get "gray barred" by Google (meaning banned for doing something wrong.) If you have the Google Toolbar you will actually see a gray bar replacing Google Page Rank on banned sites.

Tip 3: Text links work best. Links from banners or images are typically counted as advertisements and their credibility as links are discounted by Google and many other top search engines.

Tip 4: If possible, arrange to have the link to your site as a text link using keyword anchor text. So if a page's main keyword phrase is "home construction", this means that the words "home construction" would be the clickable link that leads straight to your home page. To the user, the words "home construction" would likely be marked somehow such as blue and underlined.

Tip 5: If it makes financial sense, buy software to manage your linking campaign for you. There are some good ones out there, so look around and find one you really like. A good product will save you dozens of hours of initial work and many hours each month in monitoring. Just be sure it can identify "Authority Links" so you can target only the best. If it can also automatically check all of your site rankings, and your competitors rankings, that's even better. I've used SEO Elite (www.SEOeliteWeb.com) for years and would not trade it for a free full time employee.

Part 4: Monitor Your Progress (and that of your competition!)

You can monitor all of your keywords by simply typing them in each search engine and then finding your pages. Then repeat this for your main competitors to see how your site compares. However, if you find a good combination SEO software product that does this in addition to linking, that's even better.

That's it. You know all you need to grab the number one spot on Google so go and get it - Good luck!
